Can you fix or re-point a leaking chimney? +
Yes. Leaks around a chimney are usually caused by failed flashings, cracked flaunching or perished mortar joints. We renew the lead flashings and soakers, re-point the stack and repair the flaunching so it's watertight again.
Can a chimney be removed and the roof made good? +
Yes. If a chimney is redundant we can remove it partly or completely and make the roof good with matching tiles or slates, new battens, felt and flashings so there's no sign it was ever there.
What does lead flashing do and when does it need replacing? +
Lead flashing seals the joints where the roof meets walls, chimneys, bay windows and valleys — the most common places for leaks. It should be replaced when it cracks, lifts, splits or when old mortar-only 'flashing' has failed. We fit properly dressed lead to the correct code.
